Yazıvo: a typing race in balloons over Cappadocia
Yazıvo is a free typing race for the browser. Everyone types the same text at the same time; every word you get right fires your balloon’s burner and lifts you over a Cappadocian valley at dawn. The first balloon to reach the bunting wins. A game is three races: proverbs, tongue twisters and, for double points, a short tale. How to play
- When the countdown ends the text appears; type the words in order, each followed by a space.
- A wrong letter turns red, and you cannot go on to the next word until you fix it.
- Every word typed right lifts your balloon; the first one home starts a last call, and the others have at least twenty seconds more.
- Places earn points, the third race counts double, and the most points win the game.
Three races, three lights
At dawn you take off with proverbs: a stitch in time saves nine. As the sun rises come the tongue twisters: she sells seashells by the seashore. In the morning light the final is a short tale: Nasreddin Hodja’s cooking pot that had a baby, a village bakery, or a night train. Turkish texts are typed with Turkish letters; without a Turkish keyboard, the “s for ş” setting lets plain letters count.
Friends, bots and parties
Start a room and send the link: up to eight balloons. Bots type easy (about 30 words a minute), normal (50) or hard (80), now and then hitting a wrong key and fixing it. Your words are timed the moment you type them on your own screen, and the server waits for a quicker finish still on its way before it places anyone, so a slow connection never costs you a place. A friend who reloads the page is back in their balloon where it was.
