Broadla: a naval battle in a gale
Broadla is a free naval battle in the browser for two to six friends. Sailing warships fight in a North Sea storm: the swell rolls them, the wind veers and gusts, rain sweeps across and a lighthouse turns on its rock. Every ship has four stations, the helm, two batteries and the carpenter, and bots work every station nobody takes. Play with friends by invite link or practise against bot ships, in English or Turkish.

How to play
Take any free station of your ship with the number keys or a tap, and move whenever you like. At the helm, steer with the wheel, set the sails and brace the yards to the wind. At a battery, point at the water where the balls should fall and fire the broadside, then ram the next charge home at the right moment to reload faster. The carpenter plugs leaks, fights fires, patches the hull and mans the pumps.
Wind, roll and broadsides
- No ship sails much closer than 45 degrees to the wind; a broad reach is fastest, and badly trimmed sails flog and slow her down.
- The ship rolls in the swell, and the roll lifts or drops your shot: fire when the landing ring sits on the target, and lead a moving ship.
- Round shot smashes hulls, and a raking ball along the length does the most; chain shot brings rigging and masts down.
Sinking and winning
Sink the enemy, or have the soundest hull when time runs out. Low hits open leaks and the water rises; fires burn until they are put out; a mast shot away goes over the side. In a duel two ships of up to three sailors fight; in a melee three ships of up to two fight every ship for herself.
Friends, bots and parties
Open a room and share the link: everyone picks a ship and a station, and the host sets the length of the battle and the skill of the bot crews. On your own, practise against easy, normal or hard bot ships. Bot crews steer to bring their guns to bear, time their fire and patch up what they can. Broadla is also a round in wleeaf Play parties.
Questions
Can I play alone?
Yes. Practise with a bot crew against one or two bot ships, at whichever station you like.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, upright or sideways: drag the wheel, touch the water to aim, tap to fire and ram, tap the carpenter’s jobs.
