Rotivo: read the scene, find the place

Rotivo is a free place-guessing game in the browser. Each leg shows an illustrated panorama of a real place: the landscape, the buildings, the plants, the signs, the vehicles, the weather and the light. Look around, read the clues, find the place on the map and lock in your pin. The closer you are, the more points. There are 38 places in Türkiye and 55 on every continent; two to eight play, with bots or friends.

A leg in Rotivo: an illustrated street scene with colourful Istanbul houses and a tower, and the dark blue world map in the corner with a pin dropped

How to play

Drag the scene to look around. The language and script of the shop signs, the shape of the houses, the trees, the road signs, the vehicles and the sky tell you where you are. Drag the map, zoom with the wheel or two fingers, click to drop your pin and press Lock in. Once everyone has locked in, the place is revealed: a flight line draws from each pin to the true place, with its distance and points.

Rules and points

Friends or bots

Start with bots in one click, or open a room and share the link. Bots play at easy, normal or hard and guess at a human pace; now and then they are fooled by a look-alike place. The game is in English and Turkish, and the map names countries and cities in both.

Controls

On a computer the map waits in the corner and grows when you point at it. On a phone held upright the scene sits over the map, on its side beside it; one button picks which is bigger.

Questions

Is it like GeoGuessr?

It is the same kind of place-guessing game, with illustrated scenes instead of photos. Rotivo has its own scenes, a list of places strong on Türkiye and an in-flight look.

Can I play alone?

Yes. Play against bots, or take the daily route every day.
