How to play
The 52 cards are dealt 13 each. First comes the bidding: each player bids higher than the last bid or passes. The winning bidder names trumps (koz) and leads the first trick. Then everyone plays a card in turn; the highest trump, or else the highest card of the suit led, wins the trick.
The rules
- Follow the suit led; without it you must trump; with neither, play anything.
- Must beat (on by default): if you hold a card that beats the best one on the table in the suit led, you must play it.
- Trumps must be broken (on by default) before anyone can lead one, unless you hold only trumps.
- The minimum bid is 5 by default and 13 wins at once. If everyone passes, the dealer must bid at least the minimum.
Scoring
A bidder who takes at least the bid scores the tricks taken (bid 7, took 8: +8). Otherwise they go batak and lose the bid (−7). Everyone else scores one point per trick. Matches go to 31 points (default), 51, or 1, 2, 4 or 8 hands.
Partners, no trumps and bots
With partners on, players opposite are a team and their tricks count together; the minimum bid rises to 7. A no-trump room has no koz. The host sets the rules, the bot level (easy, normal, hard) and the timer, and bots fill empty chairs. If someone drops, their chair is held for 30 seconds before a bot plays it.
What makes Kozivo different
The table is a wall of cobalt and turquoise İznik tiles, the court cards are little Ottoman miniatures, and going batak cracks the gilded medallion in the middle. Illegal cards shake and say why. The server deals and checks every card, and no browser ever sees another hand.
Questions
How many players does Batak need?
Four. With fewer people, Kozivo seats bots in the empty chairs.
What does going batak mean?
The bidder took fewer tricks than they bid, and scores minus the bid.
