Damivo: Turkish draughts on a frozen lake
Damivo is a free online Dama, Turkish draughts, for the browser. The board is cut into the ice of a frozen lake at dusk: squares of black ice and frosted ice, a lantern at each corner, snowy mountains and the lit windows of a village far off. The pieces are lacquered wood, and a king wears a gold star. Send a friend the invite link, play a bot at three levels, or play a round in a wleeaf Play party, in English or Turkish.

How to play
- Each player has sixteen men on their second and third rows. A man steps one square forward or sideways, never back and never diagonally.
- Capture by jumping an enemy piece next to you onto the empty square beyond. Keep jumping while you can: one move can take many pieces, and each taken piece leaves the board at once.
- Capturing is compulsory, and you must play the move that takes the most pieces. Pieces that must capture glow amber.
- A man that ends its move on the far row becomes a king: it glides any distance in a straight line, captures from afar and lands on any empty square beyond, but may not turn straight back between two jumps.
- Take every piece or leave your opponent no move to win. A chess clock runs: run out of time and you lose. The same position three times, or a lone king against a lone king, is a draw.
Friends, bots and parties
Open a friends room and send the link: two play one game, and with three or more the winner stays at the board and two wins take the match. Bots play at easy, normal or hard; a hard bot looks several moves ahead. A friend who reloads the page takes the same seat back.
The lake
Everything is drawn in the browser: bubbles and cracks frozen in the ice, a star of cracks and the ice singing where a piece is taken, the glint of a crown dropping onto a new king, falling snow, chimney smoke, and the sky lanterns the winner lets go into the night.
Questions
Is Turkish draughts the same as checkers?
No. In Turkish draughts the pieces move straight, not diagonally, every square is used, and a king captures from a distance. Damivo plays by the Turkish rules.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes, upright or on its side: tap a piece, then a lit square, or drag the piece.
